"Wisbech Shops" - A Free Exhibition and Talk, February 2020

Wisbech Shops Talk
Taleyna Fletcher

The Wisbech High Street Project is delighted to be working with the Wisbech and Fenland Museum, funding an exhibition on old Wisbech shops. Pop along between 15th and 29th February to see posters, adverts, photographs and memorabilia from some of the towns best loved shops.

On Saturday 29th February, to mark the end of the exhibition we have booked Dr Phillippa Mapes to deliver what promises to be a fascinating talk on shops and shopping in the 18th and 19th centuries. Booking is not necessary for this one, but arrive early to guarantee your seat! The talk starts at 1pm and refreshments will be available after.

  • The exhibition in the museum and Talk on the High Street by Dr Plillpa Mapes today was very informative. It deserved the full house that it attracted.
Earlier in the project it was planned to have APS use specialist equipment to create a full detailed survey and a definitive map of the tunnel locations.
I haven’t heard of any involvement of APS since the dig at the Wisbech & Fenland museum, are they still working with the High Street project on moving forward with this? The tunnels are undoubtedly one of the topics connected with the High street that captures residents imagination.
So far only a few still images of nearby vaults are available.
