The town’s principle shopping area is centred around the Market Place which is a key public space within the town and located within the heart of the Wisbech Conservation Area. The character and appearance of Market Place, High Street, Hill Street, Bridge Street, Post Office Lane, Little Church Street and Norfolk Street, all within the conservation area, is greatly influenced by the shop frontages and signage of premise which occupy the ground floor of buildings. This guidance is not intended to be overly prescriptive or to stifle contemporary, innovative designs. It is to provide a cohesive approach to shop front design and shop front signage for Wisbech to facilitate the development of high quality shop frontages and advertising schemes which the Local Planning Authority could support when determining applications of this nature.
